Recording Engineer

After building my recording studio in Jackson, Wyoming in 2000, I had the opportunity to record a wide array of artists and genres.  Here are some samples of what I think is my best audio work. Of course, it's easy when you are lucky enough to work with amazing musicians! (I also apologize if I've missed names for credits in this - you can let me know and I'll fix it!)

Comments:  I just love this tune, and the way Juliana Kowski sings it,

and what a great band! (I recall it was Keith Phillips, piano, Ed

Domer, drums, Mike Rossi, bass, Chris Moran, elec. gtr.)

        Mixed at my studio.

Comments:  Nicole Madison singing the vocals on this.  Wow.  Not a great acoustic

environment, but I include this because I think the vocal sounds really good, and it sounds like

a live club recording, which is essentially what it was.

7 Nights in Jackson, performed by the Saddle Rock Sisters, (Rachel, Savannah, Jessica and

Vanessa Garnick.)

Comments:  This and the next 2 songs were part of a series we did at the church called,

“Secular Song: Sacred Message.”  I would run back to my office, hit record, run to the stage

and do the tunes.  It was fun!

Comments:  Lynn Wright was a fabulous pianist and Episcopal minister. He later teamed

up with violinist Adam DeGaff and toured nationally as “Pianafiddle” for about 6 years I

believe.  Lynn passed away  in 2012.  There are many examples of their work online.

Kyrie, from Schubert's “Mass in G”

Description: Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, conducted, produced and engineered by Bill

Hungate.  Recorded at the church, mixed in my office studio, March 21, 2010.

Comments:  Another case of hitting record, and then running on stage to conduct this great

piece.  We had 4 musicians from the Grand Teton Music Festival accompanying us – they

         were fantastic.  I love Schubert.

O Weisheit, from Arvo Pärt's “Sieben Magnificat Antiphonen”

Description: Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, conducted, produced and engineered by Bill

Hungate.  Recorded at the church, mixed in my office studio, December 13, 2009.

Comments:  And now for something completely different!  Very dissonant piece, recorded to

sound like we were in a large cathedral.  With the house sound, I put two speakers in the

back with a slight delay and only the reverb wash coming back, completely blacked out the

house except for candles on the stage.  The congregation really enjoyed and responded to

the effect.  So, if it sounds like “too much” on the recording, “You had to be there!”

Carol of the Italian Pipers, from “Christmas Jazz”, arranged by Bill Hungate

Description: Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, conducted, produced and engineered by Bill

Hungate.  Recorded at the church, mixed in my office studio, December 19, 2010.

         accompanied by the quartet.
